Dr. Jean Engebretson (or Dr. E. as her students call her) joined Fairmont State University’s Department of Accounting in 2008.  She is a Certified Public Accountant who has earned a Master of Professional Accountancy from West Virginia University and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Cleveland State University.   Before joining Fairmont State, she worked in public accounting for Arnett & Foster and taught Accounting at Davis and Elkins College.  For 17 years Jean organized and led a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, known as VITA.  Dr. E., along with her students, traveled to five counties in north-central West Virginia to prepare income taxes for free for low income and elderly tax payers.  In 2017, she won Fairmont State University’s Willam A. Boram Award for Teaching Excellence due to her unusual dedication and accomplishments in teaching.  In 2017, Jean started Westchester Accounting and Tax, a small accounting firm in Fairmont, WV.

Jean is an active member of Monongah Baptist Church and an avid bird watcher.  She shares her home with Lola B, an African Grey Parrot.  Lola B spends a lot of time in the office with Jean so you may get to meet her if you visit the office.
